The Science Layman Blog

Welcome to The Science Layman, a blog about writing Science Fiction and studying science as a layman. I've been writing since I was a child, and I've had a long process of developing into the writer I want to be (a still ongoing process). I started this blog to share what I've learned about writing, researching science, and publishing from the perspective of a layman, which I certainly am.

Here, I'll talk about some of the best ways to research the science you'll need to know if you want to write your own Sci-Fi books. You don't have to be a scientist, university educated, or some kind of genius. I'm not any of those, and you'd be surprised how few Sci-Fi authors actually are. In today's modern world, even normal people like me can learn all they want to know about science.

However, one thing you must have is a passion for the art of storytelling. And, for Sci-Fi specifically, it helps to have a deep interest in factual science. Science has a language all its own, and once you learn to understand that language, you can see the world through the lens of an explorer navigating the universe, from the very small, to the largest in all creation. You'll see the stories you have yet to tell. Explore a bit of real science and you'll be surprised how much of the universe is fantastical enough to make the imagination run wild.
